Spyware and adware are responsible for the majority of complaints by users about their computer's performance. It is recommended that scans for such malicious or intrusive programs be done periodically, in addition to keeping an anti-virus program running and up to date. We recommend Spyware Doctor, a part of the Google Pack of software, Ad-Aware which can be found at (www.Lavasoftusa.com), and Spybot Search&Destroy (www.Safer-networking.org) for this purpose. Both are free for personal use and you should download and run both of them, letting them remove any "problems" they find. Avast Anti-virus has anti-spyware capability as well. Spyware Terminator deserves a mention as well, being a free and effective program.
In an effort to protect our users from viruses, we scan all email arriving at our servers for viruses. Users should however not depend upon our scanning for protection and should also run a good anti-virus program on their computers, keeping the definitions up to date with regular updates. Avast! Anti-virus is our recommended choice, with Avira Anti-virus being another free option which receives high ratings from its users. Vogel Enterprises LLC is no longer recommending the use of Grisoft AVG since their release of version 8.
Because viruses, worms and other mal-ware often use email as their mode of transport, Vogent.net by default blocks outgoing port 25, except to certain authorized mail servers. To send email, it is highly recommended that you send it through one of the vogent.net mail servers. You should configure your email client, (such as Thunderbird or Outlook Express) to use mail.vogent.net, mail.savonburg.net, mail.ispwow.net, mail.moranks.net etc.. as the SMTP server. If you are using an email account from Vogel Enterprises, you should also set the POP3 server (incoming mail) to one of the above.
If you are attempting to set up your email client to use Yahoo!'s SMTP server, you will need to set your email client to use port 587 instead of port 25. Click here for instructions on your to configure your email client to use Yahoo! mail servers.
